Those of you who also read the Operation Tackle That Bead Stash blog will be familiar with the Bead Book and Bounce that the lovely Clair from Obstinate Pursuit organises for us. This months reveal/review topic is Sabine Lipperts Beaded Fantasy book.

With a book shelf already groaning with beading books, I had resisted buying this one, but as I wanted to join in the BB&B, asked for it for Mothers Day. I am so glad I did! I love the selection of patterns and was pleased to see that as many of them use easily sourced "basics" like fire polished, 11's and pearls, I already had the stash to make several of the projects without ordering new beads.

It was hard to choose what to make first, but I settled on the Granada brooch, except I made a pendant instead. As others on the BB&B have mentioned, I did find a couple of the steps descriptions quite long and a bit difficult to follow at first, but after a couple of rereads, got them sorted and by the next day had a beautiful pendant.

I would recommend this book to other beaders, but probably not to very beginners, although I don't think you need too much experience to complete many of the patterns.

I love the book and hope Sabine brings out many more!
I was lucky enough to receive a challenge pack from the Bead Shop Liverpool which contained the most beautiful selection of mossy beads. I absolutely loved working with these and can't wait to wear this piece!
Thank you so much to Clair & Vicky!

Since I decided to stop selling finished jewellery, I have felt a lot more freedom to just play when designing/making and instead of trying to make quick & easy things to list, am back to expanding my skills.

This necklace (which I'm actually calling Feathered Romance, though I do prefer it's original title!), was made for the OTTBS Monthly Moodboard Challenge. I don't usually do pastels, but the feather pendant by Blueberri Beads was so inspiring that the rest of the necklace pretty much decided what it wanted to be, without any help from me!

I enjoyed combining all the various stitches in this piece, bead embroidery, peyote, raw and St Petersburg. I think I'll be making more multi stitch pieces very soon!
Well hello, nice to see you ;-). It's been a while, not long after my last post my mother in law sadly passed away and with various other things I lost my blogging mojo. I have been beading in my absence so do have lots of pics to update you with!

The necklace above is one I made for myself using a fab eye cabachon from the wonderful Liz Reed of The Crimson moon on Etsy. I bead embroidered the pendant added a netted fringe & hung it on a spiral rope necklace. I have worn it quite a few times to work where it is a bit of a converstion piece!

The more observant of you will notice that I have changed the name of the blog on the shop, much easier to remember and explain than April Is Forever!

Happy Beading,
I have been wanting to do one though, so I have rushed through the house work this morning so that I could sit down and rummage through my beads.

I am part of the Etsy Beadweavers team and each month they organise a challenge, this months theme is "Destinations". I have been mulling it over and kept coming back ti the idea of fish migrating, I have no idea why, lol. So my theme for this piece is "Downstream". I am imagining some sort of pennant shape pendant necklace, but we will have to see where the beads take me.

I limited my choices a little more than usual this time, but as you can see, I still have plenty of pretties to play with!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju5YImczR3xyELYx0u4ucagAK4HAEw7_-QBgLLOexShjASK-bxAVNPWf9u7NgMxwaKiJKuOgko5I1yTCHbtT2RZslrSXQUTDkGOaF77zCBlxeVE81AuWEtBB9V5dIM6YyHD27gO0oKx6M/s320/Downstream.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5712663064528934562" />

Happy Beading,

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-10805166037775163692012-02-22T11:47:00.000-08:002012-02-22T11:51:32.981-08:00Happy CabThe colours in this beaded cab & spiral rope make me happy! Probably not my best ever technical beading but I am very pleased to have finished my first bead embroidered cuff. I struggled a bit with the free form style while I was making it, I prefer a bit more order I think, but I do find the finished object quite attractive. I have already worn it, so that is a good sign!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 261px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimQ7u6HOwYD2jWEio-R2KfMa-i2orV72BuWXnB1cnw0U0Uf14rF01vdoQliOnOYeEM9ieu4GGxnIzaDYI7tXc7t7LOgOCfCF7kFfyiyQ0qt_T1RH3NqARBQ3ijxdJOSVSWB5il_Vd1uFw/s320/winterlight1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705612643967834962" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 293px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZYGZaOzic8jSAp5dCvm-4OKWXbKBCp48jW8YN1G79RAyF2jwz90rhyphenhyphenEt2Y34y5MU5p7WhloUcfDx1wRpt09dZVlTc4Rs6mG4Xf-0iJ4Tc-Q9TQwlMo-lVILVWiUp3YRPDayntKIGVCMg/s320/winterlight3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705612660152879666" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAsz4VzDgS6j6WnP62AUXpnIC1mhRHeEhJ6wvfi8rMB1IUvcb9w5ZUQcSjtA8s5cZf7ZEW8zZ1Iio59ZPM3Y65N9DSyqc6jBeMJjQ_nF6fudyCcifQZjjUBx7vJntVwy2rina3DYbKr8c/s320/winterlight2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5705612650295174002" />

Happy Beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-80194609799374971172012-01-30T02:39:00.000-08:002012-01-30T02:49:35.842-08:00Winter Light - Progress 2Here is Winter Light at about the half way stage. This kind of random beading is very out of my comfort zone! I am just going with the flow and letting the beads tell me what to do. It is quite an enjoyable process although I am finding it difficult to know whether or not I actually like the result. Hopefully when the cuff is put together and edged, I will like it more.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidwBStlxVg5DQ1UOiApapM-Z6eFzkbnTh4QkwPkdeaQMg6ctaAWfiJSex_Lo9jIq4oBvOyD1d2rMPGhP9ayI-6IrMomjKYO73rIObB8fqmQv8UlNYVYQ8fBWGXOns9Xt7EIe0N85XuZyg/s320/winter+light+progress+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5703374393047542466" />

Happy beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-5811821465433503742012-01-29T12:25:00.000-08:002012-01-29T12:29:50.696-08:00New PrettiesI was lucky enough to go to a Bead And Gem Fair today. I have never made a cuff so thought I would give it a go. I pulled out The Art of Bead Embroidery to see how I put the cuff together and off I went. I started with the lovely orphan lampwork bead and have used some of those lovely pearls too. It doesn't look like much yet, but am hoping it will improve!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 276px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqq1w-76hByv3leLt69i4nvJa0lrN0220ACJNgIN5qptCjZZuiU46zS4kukT9qPneYJXd_eNzRiCyzITCOjMgD-_d_BX42f93I2BMzjQnZEL3gFQ5kQzA6nCp2XaxBaURFQXSQEj7QkCo/s320/Winter+Light+progress+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5702039220601575442" />

Happy beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-67565834047987794832012-01-23T05:47:00.000-08:002012-01-23T05:48:52.335-08:00Winter Light - Stash SearchI really enjoyed the process of making Earth Song, both the new approach that I tried and blogging the progress, so I thought I would try it again. This time the theme that came to me as I searched through my stash was Winter Light.

Here are the results of my stash search, not quite as much as for Earth Song, but still plenty to inspire me, I think.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 209px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyyM0Txk2Lo6NZL7O2Meqc-VtTTYesP5PpeUSgB7KuHwJr7JikLUMRaJEMy2Nh8ZNxgnTA7w3KeI4PvqBtTiKkJl7uhgn5_jj4Dg6bt3wppGuBIo8LZoSK4GQ7dAZkNzEu1tB2-hGaf9w/s320/Winter+light+stash+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700820791431835218" />

A close up of a few possible focal beads, including the gorgeous blue round from Lush Lampwork.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_JfF_Rjzsf1AtBHv-y0rHhqeIPkU6-bLTIPf5OJfSM6WQlcWfv-jxam_12G4GHAj2ge9Mo80BC7wAYuMBnpyGySfl6SYTcNmHlcTXi1cjnigP89wiLRUp3A6LiRmvhETFEa49qd93VQc/s320/Winter+light+stash+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700820785213167906" />

I was lucky enough to win this gorgeous sparkly selection of beads from Spellbound Beads for being featured in Bead Magazines Readers Challenge in the Winter Sparkle issue.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_V6mMGiEJU8tvLNE1lb6RIdS_mze3sSfHOxHtC5CykLq1FwywNaEMmPguAjoHmSZR3qBNpixDSUosUVBtP35PhzQInSLKAzOWv_Cd9U5Ej38gaJo7a9CFqWZMgGBahWZUDr0nhpNGR5E/s320/Winter+light+stash+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700820776188511938" />

And finally, I am hoping to use these lovely pearls.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghrhKd4lTcCXIqZ4W4cTVui8IjPgzOuMAAAlOYwSvUXW9uYblI5M0fGwAqqLzl4_r6lLY0ZqrZLr9h1Ga2tZWJZjfNjwkUV7DHNL6YbJ25cUE27-0K5CZvnriBlsCI5R1Q7ps2z5ZV1CY/s320/Winetr+light+stash+4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700820769137406754" />

I tidied up my bead box while searching and discovered 2 packs of needles that I didn't know I had. This is quite an achievement for me as I normally only manage fairly quick projects. I did things completely differently this time, I chose a colour theme and let the beads dictate where I went with it instead of knowing what I wanted to make right from the start.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjDOiB9c8NvpJxy-k05lZx9JPNcJ_HICQgm2XWkbtqcXIdwz7FEytEM90EcRDsDsXQB5WyA9IAjdxJPm1L7uFetkJhDjjLMwbqHZgFKcvzjuNqWTQfua8d5PoWuH1CbiToCA8li1XtTW4/s320/earth+song.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5698171148812894114" />

I enjoyed the process and am really happy with what I ended up with and think that this is the way forward in terms of stretching myself creatively with my beading. I will still need to work the other way to build up stock for my Etsy shop but I am going to try and do this on a regular basis.

Happy beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-12235767544200895662012-01-14T09:43:00.000-08:002012-01-14T09:54:02.701-08:00OTTBS Earring Challenge Week 2 - Necessity Is The Mother of InventionI have snuck in at the last minute to complete this weeks pair of challenge earrings. I was struggling to come up with a design this week as I did not want to beadweave. Also my supplies are sadly lacking, I had sterling silver earwires but no chain or headpins. Gunmetal chain and headpins but no earwires and my gold plated, brass and copper findings are in a similar state! I really must do a bit of planning for the next 50 weeks.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWXSqtgo5L8eruvJjeH9KEH9Wrqk1U33GjWaTv-FACrAHkkp2zvp8JtTrK0mWd5Q_WMl3N10W0Rv_3KSx5WED-Fsc6sQyerUl2daVok5AEc6njB1Pi8f1PAupmD5hNq7xshDkEjyGXeBU/s320/earrings+week+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697545244875551330" />

So I had to be a bit inventive with what I had, I used silver rings to tie in with the colour of the earwires and added clear and matte grey firepolished.

Happy beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-71584631904593776742012-01-09T06:00:00.001-08:002012-01-09T06:03:53.537-08:00Earth Song Progress 2The focals are now backed and edged! So this morning I picked up and flicked through Margie Deeb's Beader's Colour Palette, a book which always inspires me to want to try something a bit different.

As I put the book down and went stash diving, I kept hearing two words in my head, Earth Song, so decided that that would be the theme of my next piece. I must have a serious case of denial about my stash, because I can remember thinking that I wouldn't have much that would fit that theme. As you can see below, I was very wrong there!

I juts pulled out everything that I felt fit with the theme, as you can see I have quite a selection to choose from, semi precious, lampwork, crystals, Vintaj components and lots of seed beads.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz_DxPkeVDmHKmW4LDyijftu0c0oobyfbkZVhdzmHaz6lqtwSxgwozyuG0imPrp5Ib1GdVx6nDCHUx8pe1r9dxawIPRkqA3vBTpRR9uqfDCT_Ycl5yvdsyU0vZFcTOXuvWRFFv0CgPzak/s320/Earth+Song+Stash+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694876696383105922" />

Here is a closer shot of the lampwork, I don't remember who made what, but pretty sure at least some of them are by Debbie Dew & Ray Skene.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghmJEfi288BeyS25gtsLVeydptn46Ch-X3r4ATHsN9kT0ilpVshz4r-seMUuKiPDl-n8f_P-21C6jcVQUQ4Hfwin6rCByifadDGPGQ_f5bKStxVBC0nx5B7ZS1s1MhV6svMp38E644Y8E/s320/earth+Song+Stash+3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694876710775156114" />

I am hoping to use these large ovals, they are so pretty!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUc23QJ45L4fv6hr9fGRfQD7gkb5FZhtFbWAdvsvct9E_bC8jKj4FP8ru15bQEpSW8gnNFuFUm0a1yjqH6EOyKMXGnHaxd3vy6kkfGfv_PZJ6lMIceSed8ALjIiOtyKhbPY_WO1p8mpgQ/s320/earth+song+stash+2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694876699062013074" />

Next job is to refine my choices and decide what stitches to use, I am thinking there may be a freeform element.

Happy beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-50555099727684891732012-01-04T11:10:00.000-08:002012-01-04T11:15:27.525-08:00New Year, New Knitting ProjectI normally avoid knitting scarfs because they take too long for my limited attention span. I have always liked the Hitchhiker pattern and figured that after making 2 shawls & a scarf for Xmas gifts, I could manage one for myself too. It's a great pattern, simple to follow and well written, I am using a dk yarn rather than sock weight so I am hoping it will be nice and cozy!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPOOLO5o1DNBhxhD7SkJeKOQ9nwLzOaObOQ42Ydj36Qj8F3Yj5pPvyF-ECoxsJF6njEnWR8jU6mmZpsb3YV84qRxct-wXR0X-3ut3hIbWDVq1di2gACg7hOsCpwvL-WQdp1dTscn830CU/s320/hitchhiker.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693856589652045538" />

Happy Knitting!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-32375227210744816502012-01-02T14:02:00.000-08:002012-01-02T14:11:36.097-08:00OTTBS Earring Challenge Week 1 - Miss Adler<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6-tSBXSLhgH0N8Oeo-YQNajPBTR3xcgxN7GCEkp3o0sqlAa-kR8kKHXMXEmU8Q3L5VOipkwqShN54nSw-GxfzqfRPEZ27r416YGzWxrYA2ulSStD43kT1xeK2HGauhtx5GBT29Zidfq4/s320/earring+Challenge+week+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693158618118344034" />

I mentioned yesterday that the Operation Tackle That Bead Stash Facebook Group is holding a year long pair of earrings a week challenge. The challenge is being organised by Clair from Obstinate Pursuit inspired by Beading Daily's January daily earrings challenge, which many of us were unable to commit to. A pair of earrings a day for a whole month would be impossible for me to complete but one a week is doable, I hope!

These earrings were inspired by a character from episode 1 of the new Sherlock Holmes tv series on BBC1. Miss Adler was a serious femme fatale who exuded a certain vintage style glamour, so I wanted to make something that had a vintage look to them. I started with large cream faux pearls, bezzled them with bronze delicas and then added picot edging and incorporated Cyclamen Opal Swarovksi 4mm bicones for a little splash of colour.

Happy beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-61242644906870906282012-01-01T04:25:00.000-08:002012-01-01T04:41:11.935-08:00Happy New Year!I spent most of November and December frantically knitting Christmas presents so have not done an awful lot of beading lately. I did make 5 pairs of fingerless mitts, 1 scarf and 2 shawls though so am pretty happy! I also managed to fit in these gorgeous little baby slippers for a co-workers little girl.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 286px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHpA6Tlx88cOfYmcXTjk4iXaBAQPoDBwCDSvVG_CHZkjAL5JdZzEZDlDXf3qgcKPpvmFbbVVnlEtb2lBro3KAaYAKjfu3kwQ9ilJHCiKF0-l5r4XLPcGyHnOqyCvBEFfQu-x4oDvsbGbo/s320/rosies+slippers.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5692641891528714850" />

I am not making any resolutions this year but plans include working on some pieces using the design element of repetition & seeing where that takes me, making a pair of earrings a week for Clairs challenge on the OTTBS Facebook group and also finishing or frogging one old UFO a month.

Happy 2012!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-47052854536675873942011-10-24T01:45:00.000-07:002011-10-24T01:46:40.671-07:00A Bit of Stashbusting.Those of you who also follow Operation Tackle That Bead Stash will already know about our stashbusting beadalong. A few of us from the OTTBS Facebook group have set goals to finish a project by Christmas and just by chance, we have all chosen Laura McCabe projects.

I have had Laura's Embellished Beadweaving for a while but have not made anything yet, so I have chosen her April Showers Necklace. I am not a big fan of working with size 15's but so far it is going okay. Here is a photo of my progress so far.

I am using fewer colours than Laura suggests, I am kind of making up that part as I go along, next up I need to make the Pagoda embellishments before Friday so that I can update my progress over on OTTBS.

Happy Beading!
SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-36778534852035237582011-10-22T04:48:00.000-07:002011-10-22T05:03:36.764-07:00Bubble Flower EarringsLast weekend I made it my mission to bust my stash of Miyuki drop beads. These are one of my favourite types of beads, but I rarely use them for anything other than spiral ropes bracelets. I decided that it was time to rectify that and came up with this pretty textured flower earring design. They are so tactile. The tutorial is fairly easy t o follow, though I probably wouldn't recommend for an absolute beginner to beadwork as the work is pretty dense toward the end so someone new to beading may have difficulty with weaving in the ends.

Happy Beading!

SarahxSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09643141407957852748noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2034181488226499145.post-15641775589543612622011-10-09T09:34:00.001-07:002011-10-09T09:39:12.186-07:00Everybody's Starry EyedOr eared and wristed in this case.
